It's not you, it's me

Categories: Personal, Weddings

If you tell me that you don't want to book me for your wedding, I'll be as pleased as if you were telling me you did want me. Now don't think I don't value you as a customer; I'm gonna be a little bit sad that you don't want me, but I won't take it personally! As you've told me straight out, you're clearly my kind of customer. Let me explain...

As a small business holder, when an enquiry comes through to you, you get a bubble of excitement every damn time; every wedding supplier will say the same. Not for business reasons but because someone wants what YOU offer; in my case, you think I'm good enough to be a part of the biggest day of your life and that's the best compliment ever. I'm taken back to being in school and being picked to be on someone's sports team.

Good small business holders value customer service above all else, and we will get back to you as quickly as possible and spend time putting together a detailed quote for you. You'll soon realise if you're not getting the customer service you want; we all do, whether you're wedding planning or not. If you respond to me and take the time out of your day (and believe me, we know it is hectic organising a wedding!) to get back to me to even say "thanks, but no thanks" it's a compliment because it shows you value my time. And for that, I thank you wholeheartedly.

I'll still ask you if there's anything that I could work on, or that would help change your mind; constructive criticism is great. I'll advise you on the importance of using long-lasting make-up, which will look right in all types of lighting both on camera and in person and for it to last through tears, laughs and kissed cheeks.

So please take the time to let us know if we're not the vendor for you; don't worry about it being gentle (we're in big pants now!) but if you can do it courteously with honesty, we'll appreciate it all the more. I wouldn't be in the wedding business if I didn't love it! I'd rather be someone's shot of whiskey than a cup of tea, so I'll wish you all the best for your big day and I'll spread around the good fortune, luck, karma and juju thicker than butter on hot toast :)
